“Recursion” – is an AI short science fiction film that explores the nature of memory and identity against the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic world.
In the grey zone, where humanity and biomechanical beings once waged war, a lone robot named Sparks searches for spare parts to survive. When he finds a damaged biomechanical child, it awakens conflicting memories of his own “childhood” and a human named Alex who saved him.
Through a series of constantly changing memories, Sparks tries to understand his past and make a decision about the future of the damaged being. He realizes that although the details of his memories may be unreliable, the emotions and lessons he gained have shaped his personality.
The film raises questions about what makes us who we are: our memories or how we interpret and apply them in life. It’s a story about compassion, growth, and the search for one’s own identity in a world where the boundaries between human and mechanical are blurred.
